drugs, alcohol and debt promise escape but create prisons

"Avoid three things: drugs, alcohol, and debt. They promise escape but create prisons. Be a kind person and everything else in life will fall into place."

-Chris

I know times are tough. Whether you’re juggling work, family, relationships, or just trying to keep your head above water, life can feel overwhelming. I see it every day in my line of work. I’ve been through it too—growing up in CPS, facing obstacles that shaped who I am today. So, believe me when I say I get it. Life isn’t easy, and it’s okay if things feel messy right now. You're not alone.

Now, I’m not here to preach or pretend I have all the answers. But after everything I’ve been through—and what I’ve learned by helping hundreds of families through some of the hardest times of their lives—I think there are a few things worth avoiding to make life a little easier.

Stay away from drugs and alcohol—because they might feel like a way out, but they just dig the hole deeper. Avoid debt—because financial stress steals your peace. And most importantly, be kind to people. Just... be kind. I know it's not always easy when you're hurting, but showing empathy to others, even when you don’t have much left to give, is a way to find peace within yourself.

I’ve seen firsthand that when you strip away the distractions and the pain, good things have a way of falling into place. You can’t control everything, but you can control these small, powerful choices.

So if you're feeling lost, anxious, or just... stuck, try starting here. I’m not saying it’s a magic fix, but it’s a place to begin. Life can change—I've lived it, and I see it every day in the families I help. And you don’t have to figure it all out right now. Just take it step by step.

And if no one’s told you today: You’ve got this. Keep going.
